Our 2020 SNAP!Raise fundraiser is underway! This year, we're looking to raise $3,000.00 in order to upgrade our drumline with new instruments, cases and accessories! As always, we look for support from our family, friends and fans, and it's not just monetarily. The best support can be a tweet or share on social media to help us widen our "net". In the event that GHS is closed due to Covid-19 (Corona Virus) the following assignments will be distributed for students to complete during the closure. All GHS BAND STUDENTS are required to download the practice chart below and practice for a MINIMUM of 30 minutes per day. This chart will be initialed by parents, turned in AND GRADED! EACH CHART WILL COUNT AS BOTH A CLASS ASSIGNMENT & A PERFORMANCE TEST GRADE! FAILURE TO COMPLETE THESE ASSIGNMENTS WILL RESULT IN POSSIBLE FAILURE FOR THE MARKING PERIOD. It is EXPECTED that each student will complete these assignments.
Each assignment can be completed by downloading the assignments below. On most days, practice as you normally would or follow the suggested format for the detailed session. On ONE DAY of practice, fill out the detailed practice session information. You can find clear instructions for this as well as suggested strategies on PAGE TWO of the assignment. To submit: Take a picture of the completed form and send it to Mr. Goetz via email OR Remind. You may wish to practice concert music, for etudes and other practice drills, you may use the SOUND INNOVATION book and the warm-up exercises in your concert band folder. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE, PLEASE SEE MR. GOETZ IMMEDIATELY! If you have any questions please email Mr. Goetz ([email protected]) and he will respond as quickly as possible. You can also send a message via REMIND.
WAYNE, NJ -
The Garfield High School Marching Band achieved their goal on Saturday night! The band was challenged by Mr. Goetz to work hard and try to land a "Silver" rating at the NJMEA State Marching Band Festival hosted by Wayne Hills High School. The students focused themselves and worked to improve all aspects of their performance in order to impress the adjudicators and crowd alike with their performance of this year's show: Animated! The "Silver Hunt" was achieved with one of the best performances to date by any GHS band under Mr. Goetz. Both judges and those in attendance had much praise for the band's sound and lively performance. The marching band continues its trend of improvement and looks to cap off the season in a few weeks at the Weehawken High School Marching Band Festival. 6/22/2018 Dear Band Parent/Guardian, We are very pleased that your child has expressed interest in The Garfield High School Band Program and the GHS Color Guard. Thank you for your support of your child’s continuing music experiences. The GHS Marching Band and Color Guard is a great activity that helps develop confidence, positive attitude, self-esteem, cooperation, and self-discipline. It also gives members the thrill of performing in a great band in front of thousands of enthusiastic fans. It takes a large amount of time, discipline, and dedication but the rewards are equally great. We need your help now! It is very important that we have a firm commitment so we can begin working on writing the competition music and drill. We need an accurate instrumentation count in order to do this. We also need to look at the need for large and percussion instruments, how many buses will be needed, how many uniforms, etc. As a member of the GHS Marching Band program, your child is expected to make a commitment to excellence. In order to make this commitment, the band must work hard and improve during every rehearsal and performance. The most important time of the year is the time we spend together in rehearsals before school starts. It is a chance for your child to meet new people, hang with old friends, and create a bond that will last throughout the school year. It is also the time where they will learn an extraordinary amount of musical information. This year’s band camp starts on July 30th PROMPTLY at 8:00AM. Please have your child arrive at GHS by 7:30AM so they can be ready to start at 8:00AM. Students should be dropped off at the entrance behind City Hall. We have very few rehearsal days before our first performance, so it is crucial to learn as much of the show as possible, especially during band camp. During all rehearsals, your child should wear comfortable sneakers and dress appropriately for the weather. No sandals are permitted because it is extremely hard to march correctly in them and can cause severe injury. It is important for your child to attend these rehearsals if they want to participate in band. Every rehearsal missed makes it very difficult to catch up to the level of everyone else in the group. I understand conflicts do arise. Please know that we are here to answer any and all questions that you may have. Due to the busy nature of our program, it is difficult to contact us by phone. The best way for you to reach us is electronically at [email protected]. This will allow us to respond to your query, whether you are available by phone or not.
